What it does
The scanner is a filter, not an answer.
1. Scan
Screen the market for a defined set of value and quality characteristics.
2. Investigate
Look into why a company is being priced this way and what the numbers may be missing.
3. Research
Follow the evidence and identify which companies are worth spending more time on.
4. You decide
The research is there to help you think. The investment decision is yours.
A company appearing in the scanner does not mean the company is good or that its stock is attractive. It means the market is pricing it in a way that meets the scanner's criteria — and that gives you a reason to ask why.
Why I built it
Strategies are easy. Finding the right situations is harder.
Over the last decade, I’ve been learning everything I can about investing, including different strategies, how to use options, and how to find any edge I can.
The strategies and theory have never really been the hardest part.
The bigger challenge has always been finding the right situations to apply that knowledge to the real world.
I started with basic scanners to help narrow the field. Over time, I’ve continued refining them to better identify situations that might be worth investigating.
More recently, I’ve been experimenting with AI and specific prompting to make the research process faster and more structured.
OptionStarter is the result of that process. It helps narrow the search and investigate what the scanner finds — without pretending the scanner can make the decision for you.
